Tips that are easy for you to do on your own to keep someone from using technology to know where you are and what you’re doing.
Check your car battery and gas cap. Look for GPS trackers attached to your car battery, inside your car’s gas cap, or in your home.
Change your passwords. You can try using a password manager to create and save new passwords that are strong and secure.
Change your Wi-Fi. If you have trouble after changing your Wi-Fi password, consider changing your router.
Remove any unfamiliar apps. Your stalker may try to use parental monitor apps to follow your activity.
Remove devices from Google activity at Myactivity.google.com/activitycontrols. You can also prevent saving data at that link by changing your preferences.
Disable Apple Family Sharing. Apple family sharing allows access to the Find My app on your device, and other data that you might want kept private.
Turn off location services on your smartphone. For iOS (iPhone):
- Go to “Settings.”
- Select “Privacy.”
- Tap on “Location Services” and toggle the switch to disable.
For Android:
- Open “Settings.”
- Navigate to “Location” or “Security & Location.”
- Turn off the “Use location” option.
Look for Bluetooth trackers. Apps like Tracker Detect or the Tile app will let you find nearby Apple Airtags or Google Tiles.
